NEW BUSINESS:

Grant for the Fort Gardens
- Chris Ritchart announced that she had applied and obtained a grant of $350 from the Missoula Community Award foundation, sponsored by the Missoulian. She gave the check to the treasurer. She read a letter from the Missoulian editor that said they had received over 30 applicants. He requested a follow-up report later in the year to the small grants foundation with photographs and a report on how the grounds were refurbished with the funds. Thank you Chris!

AIS Membership Secretary - Ann reported that Mary E. Brown, AIS membership secretary has passed away suddenly. Any questions regarding your AIS membership should be addressed to Ann, your Regional Vice President.

Membership List - Pete will have the complete membership list updated in time for the next newsletter. We gave some members until March 15th to renew their dues. For those members who have e-mail, he will create an  html file and send it by e-mail to each member in order to save on  printing and mailing costs.

AIS - Ann noted that AIS requires we have the complete list ready to send to them next year no later than February 28, 2005. This year she said we had 58 members, and 30 of those were AIS members. We met the 50% requirement for reduced AIS dues.

Newsletter Editor - Ann thanked Pete Addeo for a nice newsletter.

Bob Gray Memorials - Swede commented on the loss in February of our dear  friend Bob Gray. He said that Billie Gray has presented the club with  $160 worth of memorials given by friends in Bob's name. Anyone wishing to donate a memorial in Bob's name should contact either  Billie or Swede.

Gray Memorial Ceremony - Billie Gray announced that in keeping with Bob's wishes, a memorial ceremony will be held at the Fort Gardens on Friday, June 11th because he said he wanted his memorial to be held when the weather is nice and the flowers are pretty. The exact time will be announced later. She also wants to plant a tree for Bob on the northwest corner of the fort grounds. She will talk to Bob Brown about that.

March Presidential Rhizome - Won by Hazel Richlie. Congratulations.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. and was followed by a short median presentation by Ann.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Addeo, Secretary

Addendum to the minutes: Leona Wyckoff volunteered to be the Historian. She was given the box of historical information previously held by Karen Brakefield. The scrapbooks are currently with Pete Addeo.

OLD BUSINESS

MIS Membership Dues - Swede issued a final reminder that all members who have not renewed their membership dues by March 15, 2004, will be dropped from the membership newsletter mailing list. He mailed personal letters to all members who have not yet renewed

Historical Museum - Swede reminded everyone that since we pay $100 dues to the historical society, it entitles members to free entrance fees to the historical museum at the fort.

2004 AIS Calendars - Swede still has five unsold calendars. Anyone who wants to purchase a calendar should contact Swede.

Auditing Committee - The Auditing Committee of Zona, Sonia and Honk met on February 17, 2004 to audit the 2003 bookkeeping records. The only comment was since a check which was issued to Gary Clark last fall has never been cashed, the auditing committee recommended that Swede void the check and issue a new one. A motion was made by Cindi Davis, seconded by Sonia Dellapiazza to accept the auditor's report and to void and re-write the check to Gary Clark. The motion passed.

Sale Report
- Cindi Davis would like to have a card file work party on Saturday March 20th, 1:00 p.m. at the home of Cleo Swanson.

Fort Garden Report - Billie Gray said she and Honk Meyer inspected the gardens and find it is in pretty good shape. The first work party will be Sunday March 28th beginning at 11 a.m. This will be mostly clean-up and some project finishing work.

Median Show - Plans for a May median show have been cancelled, although Ann Violette had applied to AIS for the two shows. The date of May 15th was not available at the mall; an alternate date of May 29th (Memorial Weekend) was discussed. Other locations were also discussed, such as the libarary. After a show of hands, it was decided to table this important judge training show until 2005. It was recommended that the date be negotiated with the mall starting now. The plan is to keep it simple, with no ribbons, just certificates, with four tables set up into a square. Only 2-3 members would be needed to set up, but participation by members would be needed to supply the median iris. It would be an accredited show, complete with horticulture arrangements.

Show Report - The annual Iris Show will be held June 12th at Southgate Mall. The theme is Springtime in the Rockies. Ann Violette read the themes for the various classes and will place the information in the next newsletter. The show will be dedicated to Bob Gray.

Vacant Chairs - The following chairmanships are still not filled
